Shadow Hunter

Nature: Prestige Class

Those who know the secret work of the Houses of Shadow understand that Phiarlan and Thuranni have their forces of spies and assassins. However, some assignments demand more - a cunning soldier who attacks without merc, then vanishes without a trace.

The shadow hunter learns to use the power of his dragonmark in battle, but also begins to sense the presence of others who bear that mark - a gift that has become far more important since the Shadow Schism split the dynasty into the two bitterly competing Houses.

House Phiarlan and House Thuranni have gone to great lengths to conceal the existence of the shadow hunters from the public

Class Features

1.Heir's Mark: Levels in this PrC count as levels in the ''Dragonmark heir'' PrC when determining the Caster Level for the spell-like abilities of your dragonmark, and the bonus on Favor checks, to a max of +5 effective ''dragonmark levels''.

1.Improved Darkness (Ex): You can use the ''Darkness'' power of the Mark of Shadow +1 additional number of times per day for each of your class levels.

2.Deeper Shadows (Ex): When you use the ''Darkness'' power of your dragonmark, you can spend a 2nd daily use of it to enhance its power. This produces an effect identical to the ''Deeper Darkness'' spell, and it lasts for 24 hours or until you dismiss it.

2.Shadow Sense (Sp): You gain an uncanny ability to sense members of your bloodline. To activate this power, you expend 1 daily use of any of your dragonmark powers. Thereafter, for the duration of the effect, if you come within 30 feet of a character who has the Mark of Shadow, you can sense their location and the potency of their mark.

This effect even allows you to pinpoint the location of invisible characters, although an invisible opponent still gains the benefits of "Concealment" (20% miss chance). "Misdirection" is effective against "shadow sense", but you gain an insight bonus on your saving throw=(own class lvl).

Power Least Lesser Greater
Lasts 10 min/class lvl 1 hour/class lvl 24 hours
The duration of the effect is based on the strength of the dragonmark power you expended to fuel it:

Though it originally allowed allied shadow hunters to avoid accidentally attacking each other while fighting in magical darkness, this ability is now used by shadow hunters to detect the presence of those of the rival House of Shadow opposing them.

3.Poison Use (Ex): You are trained in the use of poison, and never risk harming yourself when applying poison to a weapon.

Power Least Lesser Greater
Lasts 10 min/class lvl 1 hour/class lvl 24 hours
3.Shadowsight (Sp): Can call on the power of your mark in order to pierce even the deepest shadows. To activate this ability, you expend 1 daily use of any dragonmark power. The duration of the effect is based on the strength of the dragonmark power you expended to fuel it.

For the duration of the effect, you gain Darkvision out to 60 feet (or add +60 feet to range, if you already have Darkvision), and can ignore the effects of "darkness" and "deeper darkness".

4.Shadowblind (Sp): Learns to use darkness as a weapon, blinding your enemy within a cluster of shadows. Using "shadowblind" is a standard action that provokes Attacks of Opportunity, and requires you to expend 1 daily use of your "darkness" power.

Choose a target creature within 50 feet which must make a Will save against DC = (10 +your class lvl +Cha mod) or be "blinded" for 1 minute.

5.Cloak of Shadows (Sp): You learn to wrap yourself in shadows, concealing yourself from your enemies. Using "cloak of shadows" is a Swift action that does not provoke AoO, and requires you to expend 1 use of your ''darkness'' power.

While this lasts, you gain "Concealment" (20% miss chance) for 1 minute per level (at CL = your other dragonmark powers), and you can use the Stealth skill even while being observed.

Spell Mechanics

Level: Bard 2, Cleric 2, Sor/Wiz 2.
School: Evocation (darkness)
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Components: V, M/DF (bat fur & piece of coal)
Range/target: Touched object
Duration: 1 min./CL (D)
Saving Throw: None. SR: No.

Causes an object to radiate darkness out to a 20-foot radius. This causes the illumination level in the area to drop 1 step:
"bright light""normal light""dim light""dark" (no effect in an area that's already dark)

Normal light: Creatures with light vulnerability or sensitivity take no penalties.
Dim light: All creatures gain concealment (20% miss chance).
Dark: All creatures gain total concealment (50% miss chance).

Creatures with darkvision can see in an area of "dim light" or "dark" without penalty. Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in the area of a darkness spell. Magical light sources only increase the light level in an area if they are of a higher spell level than darkness (so usually lvl>2).

If darkness is cast on a small object that is then placed inside or under a lightproof covering, the spell’s effect is blocked until the covering is removed. This spell doesn't stack with itself. It can be used to counter or dispel any light spell of equal or lower spell level.

Deeper Darkness

Level: Cleric 3.
School: Evocation (darkness)
Duration: 10 min./CL (D)

This spell functions as the "darkness" spell, except that objects radiate darkness in a 60-foot radius (not 20 ft), and the light level is lowered by 2 steps. "Bright light" becomes "dim light" and "normal light" becomes "dark" (no light).

Areas of "dim light" & "dark" become supernaturally dark. This functions like "dark", but even creatures with Darkvision can't see within the spell’s confines.

This spell doesn't stack with itself. "Deeper darkness" can be used to counter or dispel any "light" spell of lvl≤ "deeper darkness" (usually lvl<4)
