Nature: Race
Type: Humanoid
Subtype: Goblinoid
Goblinoid name: Golin'dar ("the quick people")

"This little humanoid has a flat face, broad nose, pointed ears, wide mouth, and small, sharp fangs. It walks upright, but its arms hang down almost to its knees."

Goblins are small humanoids that many consider little more than a nuisance. However, if they are unchecked, their great numbers, rapid reproduction, and evil disposition enable them to overrun and despoil civilized areas.

A goblin stands 3 to 3.5 feet tall and weigh 40 to 45 pounds. Its eyes are usually dull and glazed, varying in color from red to yellow. A goblin’s skin color ranges from yellow through any shade of orange to a deep red; usually all members of a single tribe are about the same color. Goblins wear clothing of dark leather, tending toward drab, soiled-looking colors.

Goblins speak Goblinoid; those with Intelligence scores of 12 or higher also speak Common.

Once upon a time, the goblinoids possessed a powerful and sophisticated culture, but it was ruined long ago by extraplanar conflict, civil strife, and the invasion of the humans from Sarlona. Four major goblinoid cultures have arisen from the ashes of the Empire of Dhakaan. Each has a distinct personality and way of dealing with nongoblinoid races. These four cultures are the city goblin(oid)s, the Ghaal'dar, the Dhakaan, and the Marguul clans.

City Goblins

During the initial human colonization of Khorvaire, Sarlonan invaders enslaved thousands of goblinoids. Today, goblinoids can be found in most of the major cities of Khorvaire. These goblinoids (mostly goblins, but some hobgoblins and bugbears) have been entirely assimilated into humanoid culture. To a large degree, they remain an impoverished lower class. However, most large cities harbor a significant number of goblin experts and adepts.

For instance, goblinoids of all kinds are a large minority in Sharn (20'000). While some (particularly the larger races) are immigrants from Darguun and Droaam, many of the goblin families have lived in Sharn for over a thousand years, dating back to before the time of Galifar. Many of these folk cluster in two areas in Lower Dura and the Plateau Cogs, while most of the rest live in the other neighborhoods of Lower Dura and the Depths. Some labor in the forges and foundries of the Cogs, while many more are unemployed and live in squalor.
