An "aberration" has a bizarre anatomy, strange abilities, an alien mindset, or any combination of the three. It's generally the category for creatures that don't "belong" in this world, which are alien to the natural world.
Most aberrations originated in Khyber, and while that's where the majority of them are still found (it's their "home world" or native biosphere) they can and do crawl and slither their way up into the world of Eberron, where they tend to become a problem for the people & beings who live there.
In this setting, many aberrations were originally created by the Daelkyr, powerful flesh-weavers and lords of the dimension of Xoriat, who have been trapped in Khyber ever since their attempt at invading the world of Eberron failed thousands of years ago. In that time, the Daelkyr have used their unique powers of biological crafting and reshaping the material of living beings to fashion all sorts of monstrous and alien creatures to help fulfill their plans and schemes.
